Turku University Hospital (TYKS) is the largest unit of the Hospital District of Southwest Finland which offers extensive specialised healthcare services to the residents of the region. Patients who require demanding specialised healthcare are admitted to the Turku University Hospital from all around Finland.
TYKS provides magnetic resonance guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) therapy for women’s diseases including uterine fibroids, myomas and adenomyosis. Furthermore, MR-HIFU therapy is also provided for the treatment of osteoid osteomas as well as for palliative care of bone metastases. MR-HIFU treatment is always patient-specific and is dependent on the type and location of the tumour.
Turku HIFU Research Centre (joint organisation between TYKS and University of Turku) also carries out research on alternative applications for therapeutic ultrasound.
